An MFA in sculpture or a related field and college level teaching experience are required, some administrative experience and curricular vision are preferred. Antioch College seeks energetic and accomplished practitioners with expertise in contemporary methods, concepts and critical issues in sculpture and a commitment to extending the multiple traditions and emerging practices in its/the expanded field. This candidate should have the ability to effectively critique student art work, provide project mentoring to students across established and new genre practices, and must be able to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Visual Arts is a concentration in the Arts Division, along with Media arts and Performance. The successful candidate will: develop and oversee studio course offerings in sculpture and installation art; seminars in modern and contemporary art history and visual/critical studies; help maximize links across Arts courses and arts programming at the college, and contribute to building our undergraduate visual arts program and facilities. In addition to offering courses within the visual arts concentration, the candidate is expected, in a collaborative format, to contribute to organizing interdisciplinary Global Seminars on the themes of water, food, energy, health, education and governance. They will also act as an academic advisor to students and oversee Senior Projects in visual arts. Practical knowledge in mold making and casting, fiber-based sculpture techniques, clay fabrication, woodworking and basic metal fabrication are essential. Expanded interests might include assemblage, social and interventionist practices and/or design/build, contemporary approaches to the figure in sculpture, kinetics, 3D digital fabrication, electronics, and/or physical computing. Candidates should be excited to participate in the project of reinvigorating a historic liberal arts college and reconsidering liberal arts education for the twenty-first century. Candidates should be prepared to teach within an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum dedicated to bridging the gap between theory and practice.
